Mother : Wouldn't you like me to give a hand as well ?
Father : Why not ? I must say I didn't expect you to suggest it.
Mother : I must confess I'd prefer the painters to do the work if we could afford it.
Decorate : peindre, tapisser as well : aussi, également
Give a hand : donner un coup de main afford : pouvir se payer
I'd like him to help me. Would'nt you like me to give a hand...
• La proposition infinitive est ainsi composée :
Verbes like et love + nom ou pronom personnel + infinif complet
• Remarquez l'infinitif négatif et la place de not :
I prefer him not to come tomorrow.
N.B. La proposition infinitive est parfois introduite par for :
a) après too et enough employés avec des adjectifs :
It's too late for me to do it ;
b) après wait (attendre) :
She's waiting for us to come ;
c)après certains adjectifs ou certains noms : hard, difficult, impossible, important, … :
It's time for her to go. / It's vital for her to be in time.

Exercice 1 : Liez les éléments entre parenthèses aux phrases en faisant les transformations nécessaires.
They'll come tomorrow (John, expect).
► John expects them to come tomorrow.
1/ We'll leave the room (He, would prefer).
2/ I'll sing for her (She, want).
3/ She'll learn Latin (Her parents, want).
4/ He'll be there at six o'clock (I, expect).
