Whose est complément de nom et indique toujours une relation de possession ou de parenté _ comme le laisse entendre son origine : il est le génitif de who . Il est directement suivi du nom possédé , sans article .
Ex : The man whose house was burnt ... L'homme dont la maison a été brûlée ...
ATTENTION ! En français , " dont " a d'autres emplois . Il peut être complément d'un adjectif ou d'un verbe . Dans ce cas , il ne se traduit pas par whose .
Ex : The man I was talking about . L'homme dont je t'ai parlé .

Il signifie " où " , " le moment où " . Il reprend un antécédent qui est un moment : day , time , night , year , etc ...

En cours d'anglais en ligne, il signifie " pourquoi " , " la raison pour laquelle " . Il reprend un antécédent qui indique une cause : reason , etc ...
