La phrase a commence par un mot interrogatif . Elle permet toutes sortes de réponses : c'est une question ouverte . La phrase b ne comporte pas de mot interrogatif . Les seules réponses possibles sont " oui " ou " non " : c'est une question fermée .
Les questions fermées
Dans les questions fermées , on n'utilise pas de mot interrogatif mais on met le verbe à la forme interrogative .
L'orde des mots est : auxiliaire + sujet + Verbe + compléments + ?
Ex : Is he phoning Kate right now ? Est - ce qu'il téléphone à Kate en ce moment ?
Au présent et au preterit , quand la structure du groupe verbal ne comporte pas d'auxiliaire , on utilise do(es) ou did suivi de la base verbale .
Ex : Do you want to see the parade ? Veux - tu voir le défilé ?
Le verbe be se comporte comme un auxiliaire et se place devant le sujet .
Ex : Is he worried ? Est - il inquiet ?
Les questions ouvertes
En cours anglais en ligne, elles commencent par un pronom interrogatif , un adverbe interrogatif ou une locution adverbiale interrogative . Comme ces mots comportent tous les lettres w et h , on les appelle souvent les wh- questions .
L'ordre des mots est : wh - + auxiliaire + sujet + Verbe + compléments + ?
Ex : Where does he live ? Où habite - il ?
When did you meet him ? Quand l'as - tu rencontré ?
Lorsque le pronom interrogatif est sujet , il n'y a pas besoin d'auxiliaire .
Ex : Who answered you ? Qui t'as répondu ?
Lorsque la question porte sur un complément introduit par une préposition , celle - ci est rejetée en fin de phrase .
Ex : Who was he dancing with ? Avec qui dansait - il ?
Les mots interrogatifs
Ils permettent de préciser le type d'information que l'on veut obtenir . Voici les plus courants :
Who = l'identité d'un être humain .
What = la nature d'un objet inanimé .
When = le moment .
Where = le lieu .
Why = la cause .
Which = un choix entre plusieurs éléments .
Whose = l'identité du possesseur .
How = la manière .
How old = l'âge .
How far = la distance .
How long = la durée .
How often = la fréquence .

2) Compléter les questions avec le mot interrogatif qui convient .
who / how much / why / how long / when / where .

c) ........... didn't you go to London ? The fireworks are wonderful there .
d) ........... did you meet at the hotel ? Mr and Mrs Barton ?
e) ........... was the night at this hotel ? Was it expensive ?
f) ............ did you stay there : one or two nights ?
3) Poser des questions commençant par how pour obtenir ces réponses .
a) We got to Littleton for Thanksgiving every other year .
b) We stay there for two weeks .
c) Mrs Keyes lives three miles from our hotel .
d) She is 102 years old .
e) She has fourteen grandchildren .
4) Poser les questions portant sur les mots en gras .
a) For Valetine's Day , I sent a card to Sarah.
b) And I gave her a nice parcel with red button .
c) She said she loved me when she unwrapped her present .
d) Se told me it was the nicest gift she had received .
e) I bought it at Harods .
f) I go there twice a week .
